This week’s notes begin with a few words about our recently retired
inter county footballer of the past 12 plus years, namely Pat Hughes. Best
wishes on your retirement Pat. Great to have a player and individual of the
calibre of Pat in our club. A man who has taken many’s the underage training
sessions at the shortest of notice without a moment’s hesitation. A Railway Cup
medal winner with Connacht, the provinces first since 1969, a feat not many Sligo
footballers have achieved. A player and leader who is held in the highest of
esteem by his peers.
Wishing you all the best on you inter county
retirement, hoping to see you in the Blue & White of Gaobhach CLG for
many’s the long years to come. Enjoy your travels...
The on field action began on Monday night last when our GSTM
U.13 Lads captured the “B” League crown after a pulsating 2-point win (8.07 to
6.11) over Castleconnor.
Played in front of a vocal, enthusiastic crown in
Connolly Park, Collooney. This game was level after the first quarter, half
time and third quarter, such was the competitive nature of both teams.
A first half goal and a point from Aidan Gabiddon,
along with points from Liam Mostyn (2), Callum Brady, captain Jake Noone and
Charlie Cawley left the score at the first quarter level at 1.06 to 2.03.
Both sides enjoyed spells of domination with goals
and points coming thick and fast. GSTM sub Mark Byrne entered the game and
scored a goal with his first kick after getting a pass from Liam and the same
player kicked a point a few minutes later to leave the have time score level
again at 2.07 to 3.04.
GSTM dominated the early stages of the 3rd
quarter in this enthralling game, two goals from Liam, put our lads in control
before the pendulum swung in Castleconnor’s favour, the dominated the remainder
of the 3rd quarter to go in level again at the end of this
enthralling game.
Both sides spared nothing in effort in the final
quarter and our lads opponents lead by 4 point entering the final moments of
this great game, captain Fantastic Jake set off a solo run before blasting the
ball to the net, to reduce the margin to one, a goal from Liam as the game
entered its final minutes saw our lads capture victory on a two-point margin
(31 to 29).
No one deserved to lose this fantastic game, thankfully
our GSTM lads emerged victorious.
Well done to Emmet, Tony, Greg, Brendan, Aaron and
their talented bunch of footballers.

to Cooler / Strandhill, our lads began slowly but domated twenty minutes of the
first half kicking some great scores to bring the game level at 1.06 to 2.03
with two first half minute left, however two soft goals in the remaining
moments of the first half saw our lads good work undone.
