The Annual General Meeting of Enniscrone Kilglass GAA took place on Friday night, 10th February in the Astroturf facility. Outgoing chairman welcomed the large attendance and thanked all for being part of the Club. Following apologies and adoption of the minutes, the Secretary, Shane Hargadon, proceeded with the secretary’s report. In his detailed report he thanked the outgoing chairman, who was stepping down after 3 years in the role. He said his help and guidance was immense and his commitment to the role was outstanding. He also thanked all committee members for all their efforts throughout the year.

Club Treasurer, Clair Beglin Duffy provided a comprehensive report in the financial statement for 2022. She gave special mention to Robert Jacob for his work with the astroturf rentals and Brian Coleman for his work with the weekly Blotto. The Chairman paid tribute to her for her superior work in keeping everything in order with large income and expenditure figures especially with the development still on going.

Marty Duffy, in his final address as chairman spoke of his pride to be chairman of the club full of great talent. He said we should continue to be a club where everyone is proud to belong to and that is respected in the community. This was evident with the Christmas tractor run which was a great spectacle and well supported. He continued that the big project for the year was the completion of the new facilities and the erection of the lighting on the main pitch. He said we will have one of the finest grounds in the county when completed.

He acknowledged the sponsorship from the main club sponsor, Lacken Wind Energy and the Diamond Coast Hotel as the Senior Team sponsor. Sponsorship is very important to the running of the club. Other club sponsors are Centra Enniscrone, Gala Enniscrone, Hallinan Engineering Services, Peter O”Neill Construction, Hilltop Service Station, Coleman Electronics and Queenan Checkout.

He thanked all the coaches at the different teams who give their time to mentor all the players and to the parents who support the players and take them to training and matches. He thanked all the players who represented the club during the year congratulated all the club players who represented the county during 2022 and in particular to Gavin and Brian Duffy who had success with the U20’s in the Connacht Championship and Eoin Tuffy who captained the U16’s in their win in the Fr. Manning Cup final.

He thanked Liam Cawley and his pitch committee for the great work in keeping the pitch and grounds.

He thanked Joe Cawley during his term as chairman for all his help and support as project manager of the new development.

He thanked Declan Rouse and John Paul Carden for all their support and help to all the coaches and teams.

He thanked Shane Hargadon as secretary and said the club is lucky to have someone of his ability in the role.

He hoped with the development nearing completion that the club will get our finances back to a good footing again. He also said he hoped that the club will build on John Paul Carden’s work last year and will soon be challenging for silverware.

As he concluded he received a rousing applause, an acknowledgement of his wonderful work steering the ship this past three years.

Election of officiers followed.

Following Cathal Mullaney’s election as chairman he thanked Marty Duffy for his three years in the chair and spoke of how proud the club are of his achievements that are away from the club but still in the organisation and wished him the best for the future.

He said that his priorities for the coming year is to build up the club reserves again and also find a route back to the top by building on the good work that is done to date.

The new senior management team of Enda Gilvarry, John Paul Carden and Derry O’Sullivan was ratified with strong hopes for the future expressed.

Votes of Sympathy were passed to the families of Rita Jacob, Brian Mulhern and Tommy Bourke.

Next meeting provisionally booked for the 6th March at 8pm.
