Sligo GAA is pleased to announce arrangements for the opening of club activity with the release this week of fixtures for its Spring League Warmup Competitions in Football for each Division.
The Spring League competitions were introduced last year as an initiative to provide competitive games for clubs during the period of the year set aside for intercounty competition as the regular club leagues will not start until the end of May.
These competitions will again be run along largely geographical lines with clubs pitted against local rivals in five or six team groups. The groups for the senior / first teams for each club are set out below with a small number of variances from geography to allow for a balance in competitiveness*.
Clubs that that wish to enter the Spring League Warm Up Competitions for Junior / second teams in football need to confirm entry to the Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) - to secretary.ccc.sligo@gaa.ie – by Sunday next, February 26th.
The format for the Spring League Senior competition is round robin with a divisional final between the top two teams in each.
The winners of the North and South Divisions will then play for the Kiernan Cup and the winners of the East and West Divisions will play for the Benson Cup. Both finals will be on the weekend of May 20/21st. The full schedule for games is as follows;
- Round 1 April 1/2nd
- Round 2 April 15/16th
- Round 3 April 22/23rd
- Round 4 April 29/30th
- Round 5 May 6/7th
- Divisional Final May 13/14th
- Kiernan/Benson Cup Finals 20/21st
The detailed Spring League fixtures will appear on the Sligo GAA website in the coming days.
