Sligo’s senior
footballers picked up where they left off in their game against Wicklow two
weeks previously with a second League victory of 2023 when they eased to a comfortable
0-21 to 0-13 victory over Waterford in the Allianz
Football League Division 4 on Sunday.
Apart from a few early moments, the home side were ahead almost
all of the way through and in truth will be disappointed that they didn’t
record a higher score in a game they were never at risk of losing.
The visitors were first off the
mark with a point in the first move of the game but Sligo soon overturned that score
and quickly got into their stride with points from Paddy O’Connor, Sean Carrabine
and Pat Spillane put Sligo 3 up after 10 minutes
Further scores from Murphy and
Gerard O’Kelly Lynch, pushed Sligo out to a five-point half time lead.
The Yeats County continued the pace in the early stages of the
second half and were nine points up by the 42nd minute with Carrabine at
the centre of their efforts.
Although it took them 15 minutes to
get off the mark in the second half, it prompted something of a purple patch from
Waterford when Dermot Ryan, got two quick scores to leave Waterford seven
points adrift.
However Sligo restored and extended their margin with points
from Jack Lavin, Murphy, Carrabine and Cian Lally adding to their tally for the
afternoon to finish positively with a 0-21 to 0-13 win.
