While attention for most of Sligo’s underage hurlers and
footballers is focussed on preparing to get back on the field, next Friday
evening will be a big evening off the field as last year’s Celtic Challenge
championship winning team receive the medals,
Sligo triumphed in the final with a dramatic one point
victory over Mayo in a sun drenched final; in Markievicz Park last June. They
had qualified for that final after a semi-final victory over Meath and the
Sligo side, captained by Western Gaels Ciarán Keenan had earlier beaten Donegal
and Tyrone
The event kicks off at 8.00pm on the Clayton Hotel on Friday
evening. There are seven clubs represented in the squad which highlights the
progress in the development of the underage game in the county.
