Shamrock Gaels Club notes Monday 14th October
The club lost another link with our past with the passing of our Club President and former Chairperson, Seamus Cawley. Seamus joined the Executive in 1983 and became Vice-Chairperson in 1985. In 1988, Seamus was a proud man when he assumed the position of Chairperson, a position he held for ten years. During his tenure in the chair, Seamus oversaw a period of unprecedented on-field success as well as transition and development for Shamrock Gaels, which included two Senior Championships as well as the development of the club grounds at Coola. Upon stepping down from the chair, Seamus continued to serve on the club Executive as County Board Representative as well as carrying out a multitude of other tasks for both club and County. He also served as a selector with various Shamrock Gaels teams, most notably the Under 21 Championship treble winning teams of 1987,1988 and 1989 and the 2018 Intermediate Championship winning side.

We extend our sincere sympathies to Seamus’s beloved wife, Patricia as well as his brothers, Hugh, Michael and Martin, his sister, Rita and his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and relatives. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.

The Senior team lost narrowly to St Molaise Gaels in the semi-final of the championship on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-10. The team was: Daniel Lyons, Oisin Conlon, Evan Lyons, Sean Carroll, Karl McKenna, Paul Higgins, Ciaran Kenny, Patrick Kenny (0-1), Dillon McDermott (0-1), Conor Sheridan (0-1), Lee Deignan (0-2), Daniel King, Steven Willis (0-1), David Quinn (0-4), Shane Deignan (0-2). Subs: Liam O'Connell for S Willis, Ben Tuohy for P Higgins, James Carroll for D McDermott. Despite the disappointment of today, there are a lot of positives to be taken from the campaign not least the character the team showed in overcoming a surprise first round defeat to make the semi-finals and no doubt the team will come back stronger and better in 2025. Thanks to the management team of Shane King, Manager, Keith McMorrow, Selector, Pat McTiernan, Selector, Alan Doherty, Coach, Joe Quinn, S&C, Hilary Lyons, Kitman, Eoin O'Connell, Stats and Wayne McNulty, Physio for their work with the team this year.

Congratulations and well done to Evan Lyons who picked up his second Tailteann Cup, All Star Award at the weekend.

Hard luck to the Girls U13 team who lost the semi-final of the championship against Eoghan Rua. This is a very young team and most of the Girls have two years left at this level so no doubt they will be contesting finals again next year. Thanks to the management team of Thomas Galvin, Nadine Barrett, Ciaran Garry, Sean McHugh and Martin Cassidy for their work with the team this year.

The winner of the 50/50 draw last week was Lauren and Katelen Orr who won €781.
